As college students, it can be a struggle to place emphasis on a healthy diet. We’re expected to eat food from the dining halls, not knowing exactly what’s in it or where it comes from. Living the dorm lifestyle can make it difficult to keep healthy foods around, but one simple food can be your holy grail to healthy eating: chia seeds.

Why chia seeds?

These tiny seeds have a lot of power. They’re high in omega-3 fatty acids, fber, antioxidants, iron and calcium. Omega-3 fatty acids promote HDL cholesterol (aka“good cholesterol”) that protects against heart attack and stroke. The five grams of fiber that chia seeds contain per tablespoon will increase your chances of meeting the recommended daily fiber intake, promoting a healthy digestive tract and ridding the body of toxins. Not to mention, fiber plays a huge role in weight loss because it helps you feel full for longer.

How do you eat them?

Chia seeds can be eaten cooked or raw, but they must be consumed within a liquid. Whether you mix them into your water, cereal or other recipes, it’s important to consume them this way so that they can expand to 3x their size and maximize your benefits. Putting chia seeds into your water may do the trick, but there is a more creative way to seed your soul: chia seed pudding!

Chia seed pudding is an overnight easy on-the-go breakfast. The basic ingredients of chia seed pudding are chia seeds, almond milk, superfood powder, and any toppings your heart desires!
